
The Nobel Symposium “Palaeogenomics: charting the future of ancient DNA” took place on
26-30 May 2025 at Villa Aske in Stockholm, Sweden and brought together leading experts to discuss the future of the field. Christina Warinner presented her work on the archaeology of microbes and the future of lost genomes. The event marked the first time a Nobel Symposium had focused on the field of ancient DNA, and it featured the work of 14 leading scientists: Stéphane Peyrégne, Johannes Krause, Qiaomei Fu, Beth Shapiro, Michael Hofreiter, Sanne Boessenkool, Greger Larson, Ludovic Orlando, Daniel Bradley, Christina Warinner, Martin Sikora, Maria Spyrou, Eske Willerslev, Laura Epp, and Inger Alsos.
