My advice:
Follow-up on those things that you love doing but eventually look back from time to time and ask yourself what else could be interesting as well. / Min Rot a jongi Lüüt esch, dass me emmer das sell mache wo me sech deför enteressiert ond sech aber zwöschetie ou frooge was chönnt mi schöscht no enteressiere.
About me:

I am a trained molecular biologist and working nowadays as a proteome informatics scientist in a core facility in Zurich (Switzerland). I am interested in the analysis of data that is generated by mass spectrometer in order to identify proteins from a sample under investigation.

I was growing up in a tiny village in the Kanton of Lucerne just about in the middle of Switzerland. The town was called Triengen and it had about 2600 inhabitants at that time. It is very rural and everybody knows everybody.

Actually, I always wanted to become a teacher as my father was. I was pretty much the rural type and it was already a huge step for me leaving my village to go to a secondary school such as a gymnasium at the age of 13. The gymnasium was about 8 kilometers away from Triengen and this was one of the first steps I made on my own. Similarly then when I went to Zurich for my studies, which was extremely fascinating for me.

I went to the technical federal university in Zurich (ETH) because I was kind of one-side-talented with good grades in math and physics but poor performance in german and french. Therefore it was clear I will continue with a technical subject. First of all I was overwhelmed with the different options to study at ETH and I did choose biology with focus on biochemistry because this sounded futuristic to me. I got completely fascinated by this subject and therefore I continued along these lines with my PhD.

During my studies at ETH I was still doing a lot of sports (especially volleyball and beach volleyball) and one of my volleyball colleagues turned out to be my teacher in bioinformatics. Because I got along well with him, I decided to do my bachelor thesis with him. It all ended up that I was even doing my Master and my PhD thesis in the same lab. Not only because I liked the people there but also because I got attracted by the topics and the methods and I got motivated very fast.

Über mech

Uursprönglech han ech mou Molekularbiologie stodiert a de ETH Zöri bevor ech währed mim Doktorat d Liideschaft entwecklet för programmiere ond Dateanalyse vor Massspec Date. Mettlerwiile schaff ech amene Institut vo de ETH und de Uni Zöri ond cha mech det jede Tag met derre Art vo Date beschäftige.

Ech be en Trienge emene chliine Dorf em Kanton Lozärn zemli ede metti vo de Schwiiz uufgwachse. Trienge hed dazumal nome öppe 2600 Iiwonner gha ond e somene Dorf hed jede jede könnt.

Eigentlech han ech emmer welle Lehrer wärde (wie mi Vater). Ech be es tüüpisches Landei gsii met allem wo dezue ghört. Wöu ech aber emen sone chliine Dorf uufgwachse be han ech scho för d Kanti (Gymnasium) em Alter vo 13i ca. 8 Kilometer ewäg i d Schuel mösse. Dörr das esch den de Schrett ine grossi Stadt wie Zöri nömm riisig gsii on des hed mi det alles oms Studiom fasziniert.

Ech be a d ETH Zöri gange well ech relative eiisiitig veralagt gsii be. Mathi & Physik hend mer Spass gmacht ond Düütsch ond Französisch esch en Qual gsii. Drom esch de Schrett a d ETH relativ klar gsii. Allerdengs beni met em Aagebot öberforderet gsii wo me hätt chönne stodiere.

Drom han ech zo ehm welle go mini Semesterarbet mache. Do esch den meh druus worde so das ech am Schloss sogar mini Diss dete gmacht ha, ned nor wäg mim Kolleg aber well s mi allgemein sehr fasziniert hed ond ech top motiviert gsii be.
